The Reveal

I do promise to get back to cooking someday soon (hopefully tomorrow).

The last couple days have been crazy, though.  The counters did come on Tuesday (yay!), but there was quite a bit of finish work for us to do afterwards.  Today’s project was touch-up painting – so the paint is actually wet in these pictures.

(But I wanted to get them posted before T-ball this afternoon.)

So enjoy.

Before (February 2012):

After (May 2012):

As you can see, we still need to put on the fixture plates and stain/paint/do something with the corbel braces (any thoughts or suggestions on that would be most appreciated).

Overall, though, I am SO happy.  For some reason, the counters actually feel like they’ve been here all along, which is so strange!

Now, I can’t wait to do some serious dough rolling.

I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. I think it looks great!! I love your kitchen!

As for the braces, I’d 1. stain them to match the floors/cabinets, 2. paint it the same color as the walls to blend in or 3. paint it white to match the trim for more contrast.

  2. Two suggestions- for the corbels use an accent color that will brighten and compliment the cabinet color if you can. Instead of painting them, try printing the desired color out on a sheet of paper from your color printer and taping it to the wood. Saves time and will give you the chance to see the color in place without the work of painting it on, if you don’t like it, find another color. Once you have the right color, take your sheet of paper to the paint store and they can color match it. Might try a bar stool or two in the same color too.

Second idea- ceramic tile your back splash area. It’s relatively cheap and easy to do yourself. Easy to clean, and will stay in fashion for years if you don’t go too crazy with the pattern. 12 inch square tiles are perfect and require very little grout between tiles.

Congrats on the new kitchen, it looks great.

    • Thank you so much, Jordan! I LOVE your idea of ‘faking’ it with paper first to get a good idea of what it would look like. Hubs is definitely leaning towards staining like the cabinets – I want them to blend more. We shall see who’ll prevail. 🙂

    • Thanks, Yudith! For some reason, I can not get my WP reader to recognize your RS feed…so sorry if my comments are a bit sporadic – still trying to figure it out. 🙂

  3. It looks great. As for the Corbels it depends on what look you are going for. Stain them to blend in, paint them white like your trim to make them pop, or find a nice stainless metalic paint for a more contempory/industrial feel. (the stainless metalic paint is my favorite option – incase you were wondering)

  4. Yay! Your counter tops look great, Courtney. Just look at all of the room you’ll now have to roll out your pasta dough! Your kitchen does look very nice and I bet you’ll be happy there for many years to come.

  5. Yeah! the counters came in! What a beautiful clutter free clean kitchen! I hate to take a pic of my kitchen. We literally have piles of papers everywhere from kids school work and my stuff too! I am hoping to remodel our kitchen next year. Now you can relax and enjoy and look forward to your first recipe in your new kitchen!

  6. The kitchen looks great!!!!…I would paint them the color of the wall, blend them in…under the counter is not where I would like the eye to focus, above the counter is too beautiful to be distracted from. Happy cooking
