Have you ever made something so wrong it was right?
That’s exactly what today’s post is about.
I originally saw this recipe at Alli’n’sons last week – and I’m impressed I waited this long to try them out. I had never heard of such a thing before and was very intrigued to try it out.
Potato Chip & Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies, adapted slightly from Alli’n’Sons
1 c butter, softened
3/4 c sugar
3/4 c packed brown sugar
1 t vanilla extract
2 c all-purpose flour
1 t baking soda
2 c crushed potato chips
1 c dark chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a small bowl stir together flour and baking soda. Set aside.
Using an electric mixer, cream together butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix to combine. Slowly add flour mixture, beating until well combined. Stir in the potato chips and peanut butter chips.
Drop by the tablespoon, two inches apart, onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper or silicone liner.
Bake for 7-9 minutes, or until the cookies are golden brown.
Cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheets, then move to wire racks to finish cooling.
As far as making the dough, these are pretty typical for cookie making.
I admit, though, that I did have a blast getting my frustration out on the poor potato chips while crushing them. There’s just something so satisfying about the crispy texture and sound of crushing potato chips. (Or maybe that’s just me.)
Anyways, I learned while baking that these little critters like to spread out. Way out. So be sure to give them lots of room, or your cookies will end up attached to one another like this:
These cookies also end up very thin, so don’t let that worry you. Mine even had some see-through parts, but I think that’s part of their charm.
Now the taste – the taste was a perfect combination of sweet cookie, rich chocolate, and crunchy salty chip. In a word, heavenly. All the flavors are so evident, but really complement each other.
This is one recipe that will be made again.
(And probably again after that – I have no self-control.)
On a side note, I’ve been horribly remiss in thanking several of my blogging friends for awards they’ve passed on to me. So thank you Chris at Foodthoughtsofachefwannabe, Amy at Rolling Sin – Sweets after Dark, and Choc Chip Uru at Go Bake Yourself for the Versatile Blogger Award.
I’m supposed to share 7 interesting things about myself… but I’m really not all that interesting. As soon as I think of some really good things, I’ll post them – I promise.
Have a great day!
